Last Monday evening, we had the pleasure of hearing Carolyn Johnson, Centennial Speaker Series #4, talk about the importance of literacy. She spoke about Rotary's education goals, including strengthening communities to support literacy, reducing gender disparity as well as increasing adult literacy. Her passion was especially felt as she described her involvement with the Guatemala Literacy Project. She explained how she developed a program that enabled children in Guatemala to read. Creating a "Culture of Reading" has been incredibly successful in Guatemala, and Ms. Johnson ended off with thoughts on how we can help with literacy both in our own community and internationally.

Our Club sponsored and supported Salvation Army Windsor's 5th annual Sallyfest, held this past Wednesday. The event was able to feed over 300 people in our community - thank you to all who helped!
Please read the following letter, sent in by Sevda:
President Jules
On Wednesday, August 15, Rotarians volunteered at Salvation Army Sally Fest BBQ.
Our true and wonderful Rotarian Joel Rocheleau kept volunteering even though he had lost his brother the night before.
We asked him to go and be with family members. He decided to stay with his Rotary family. I am very proud and thankful for having the opportunity of volunteering with a strong and brave Rotarian as Joel.
Sallyfest was a huge success, serving over 300 people and also sad for us trying to support Joel emotionally. He really deserves to be acknowledged for his Service Above Self.
Thank You.
Sevda
On behalf of Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) and all it's members, our deepest condolences go out to Joel and his family during this very difficult time.
David donated $50 of his raffle winnings towards supporting the Foundation Fund.
Be a part of the Club's significant fundraiser. To volunteer please contact Coordinator Walter Willms at 519-966-7150 or walter.willms.windsor@gmail.com. He, or a designate, will be in attendance at every bingo.
