Our Club held its annual Remembrance Day luncheon on Monday, November 4th, honouring the courage and sacrifice of those who served our country. Thank you to Captain (Navy) Dan Manu-Popa, Director of Reserves, Canadian Armed Forces for travelling from Ottawa to be our guest speaker, and to all the military personnel from The Windsor Regiment, The Essex and Kent Scottish, The Windsor Support Company (31 Service Battalion) and The HMCS Hunter. Special thank-you to special guest Bernard Cote, a Korean War Veteran - we were so happy he was able to join us. Playing the pipes was Corporal Nathan Duczman from The Essex & Kent Scottish Pipes & Drums and the bugle, Master Corporal Lepain from The Windsor Regiment (RCAC). Thankful for President-Elect Gerry Pocock for arranging the program, Andrea Grimes for her leadership and to Peter Hrastovec for his readings of In Flanders Fields, Act of Remembrance and Commitment to Remember.

Rotary Satellite Club of Windsor (1918) Evening
 

At the Rotary Satellite Club of Windsor (1918) Evening meeting held on Tuesday, November 5th, President Gord Faas presided over the induction of Andrea Cassidy and Dr. Pierre Boulos. Pierre and Andrea shared their “This is My Life” stories and expressed their reasons for joining Rotary. Welcome!
 
Since November is Rotary Foundation Month, PP Colleen and PDG Rick presented information on the Foundation and how Rotary is able to fund the many projects undertaken by clubs around the world.
 
Clinton Beckford shared his experiences as the leader of the Vocational Training Team (VTT) for the mathematics education project in Tanzania in July, 2019. New member Andrea Cassidy will be the team leader for the VTT in Tanzania in 2020. The focus will be on midwifery and maternal health.

Our Club has received 30 pieces of framed art (mostly purchased from exhibitors at Art in the Park, and purchased by Margaret and Ted Herbert over many years). We're looking to sell these quality art pieces to raise funds to drill a well in Ghana, Africa, in the donor's name.

If you see a piece you're interested in, it can be purchased prior to the silent auction directly on the site or by calling Ron Arkell, 519-973-4052. Details and estimated current values listed are based on internet searches, art websites, websites of artists, and from the opinion of a local art teacher.

Minimum bids are approximately 50% of estimated current value. Silent auction closes at approximately 7:50pm.

Not included in the silent auction is a piece by Salvador Dali, appraised as of 2006 at USD $18,500. A live auction of this work will be held at 7:40pm. Authentication will be on display in writing by Parkwest Art Gallery in Michigan. This is lithograph number 114/245.

Complimentary food and beverage included, no admission charge.

This is a notice To Club Members to consider putting their name forward for consideration to serve on the Rotary Club Of Windsor Foundation Fund Board for a three year term starting June 30, 2020. Club members of at least two years as of June 30th, 2020 may self nominate. Nominations must be submitted to myself in writing or email indicating your expression of interest and reason for applying. If you need more information contact myself or any director as listed on the Club web site. The term of office for all elected Directors shall be (3)years. A Director can stand for reelection but cannot exceed (9) years in total. Prior to the AGM The FF Board will present the name(s) of the Director(s) they are endorsing.

Again this year,  District 6400 - Canadian Clubs will come together and have an evening of fun and fellowship as we make a "Donation Mountain". Yes, the tradition of the Rotary Socks and Bottoms project continues.  

Socks, underwear, diapers, adult incontinence products, sleeping bags hats, mitts, and scarves will be collected by Rotary Clubs, to be distributed to various agencies to help the homeless and those in need.  This year we have added toilet paper to the items being collected.

Rotarians and their families will be invited to attend the Socks and Bottoms dinner on December 11th at St. Nicholas Macedonian Orthodox Church Community Centre, 5225 Howard Ave., to build a "Donation Mountain". Please save the date.
