District Governor, Dr. Noel Jackson was in attendance to install the new Executive Board with Rick Caron as incoming Chair. Prior to the installation, outgoing Chair, Colleen Mitchell, provided an overview of the first year of the Satellite Club which held its inaugural meeting on August 8. During the past year, 6 new members were inducted and 5 service projects were undertaken. Members prepared materials for the Mats of Hope project, created Christmas Cards for senior homes, cut up vegetables to be made into soup at the Unemployment Help Centre, thoroughly cleaned the kitchen at the Salvation Army and prepare “survival kits” to bring a smile to those in need. Little did we know that the survival kits would be so helpful once Covid-19 hit. With the closing of public spaces, the Satellite Club went to the internet and held weekly meetings via Zoom. Colleen commented on the high quality of the weekly speakers and programs which continued through the Zoom meetings. Of particular note was the planning meetings held on a regular basis to have members suggest potential programs and speakers.
Incoming Chair, Rick Caron thanked Colleen and proposed that a $100 honorarium be awarded to a charity of her choice. This met with unanimous approval. Rick called attention to Rotary’s theme for the year – Rotary Opens Opportunity – and encouraged members to find opportunities for service projects and interesting programs and speakers. Rick also advised members of a new initiative with the LGBTQ and the indigenous communities - to explore and create a monument highlighting their history.

Sara Alves, our exchange student from Brazil arrived home Sunday, July 12th, and was greeted by her family at the airport. Here is a photo of their reunion at the airport!
Thank you to Renee Pare, Michelle Morency and the Youth Exchange Committee for all your support and assistance during an unusual time. Proud to be a Rotarian and work with such great colleagues throughout our club.
As for Sara, she will be one to watch! A strong, intelligent, and positive young woman. We have a new family member and we look forward to a future visit to Brazil.
