Dr. Clara Howitt spoke about the reciprocal learning project the Greater Essex County District School Board is involved in, joining schools in Ontario and South West China. "The primary goal of the project is to build a knowledge base for understanding and comparing the Canadian and Chinese educational systems, for generating positive, reciprocal, practitioner knowledge and methods, and for contributing to public discussion of primary and secondary education in China, Canada and more broadly."* Dr. Howitt explained Windsor/ChongQing as sister schools, and what we've learned from the program: In terms of academic learning, we've gained insight in both content and pedagogical knowledge and understanding. In terms of cultural learning - an understanding, appreciation and celebration of diversity. Matt Lahoud and Lisa Kolody spoke about the Rotary (1918) Centennial Scholarship Fund.
Dr. Asmat Naebkhil gave an update about the much-needed heart clinic he helped set up in Kabul, Afghanistan with the help of our Club. It's known now as the "biggest Canadian project in Afghanistan", today with approximately 480 personnel performing 5-6 open heart surgery everyday. Dr. Naebkhil thanked our Club for our generosity, and is looking to expand the clinic, as there are currently no emergency hospitals in the area.
Mike Drake announced a call for nominees for the Walter P. Willms New Rotarian Leader Award.
Tom Goebel announced that 300 seedlings will be planted at the District 6400 Tree planting event this weekend.

Centennial Gala: We are now a sold out event!
Caesars Windsor, scheduled to host our celebration, has informed our Gala Committee that they are cancelling all events booked in early May. As a result we have had to move our centennial celebration. We are very fortunate that the Greek Community Hall located at 3052 Walker Rd, Windsor is opening its doors for the first time on May 11th and we are going to be their first guests!
For those who will be attending, an email will be sent out shortly describing this change in more detail.
