Over 300 people attended the 4th annual Hope in the City Windsor 2018. Each year, The Salvation Army Windsor and Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) partner to host this event with the goals of raising awareness about the importance of TSA programs, and to kick off each year's Salvation Army Kettle Campaign. This year, the campaign goal is set to raise $320,000, to be used to support those in need.

President Jules started the event, touching on the relationship between our Club and The Salvation Army Windsor that has spanned decades. Both our organizations have a lot in common: Our motto is “Service above self”; the manifesto of the Salvation Army is “Giving Hope Today” – both of which translate into "actions that help the vulnerable and less fortunate, in our community and around the world".

Major Paul Rideout gave the invocation, and Nick Bibic led us in the 4-Way Test. Jim Crichton, Senior News Anchor, CTV News was the Master of Ceremonies and Fred Francis brought greetings from the City.

The keynote speaker this year was Detroit Tigers legend Willie Horton, who's message focused on "Persistence, Teamwork and Giving Back." He gave a powerful talk about his roots, his life and career, and the importance of community.

Fun time with the Young Rotary Leaders at Phog Lounge, Pitch It or Pitch In event Wednesday night! Thanks to the 5 people who pitched some pretty awesome ideas and to everyone who signed up to volunteer - you made this event happen! Pitches included Pen Pals to end racism, YRL debates to help increase voting turn-out, free wi-fi cafe at Art in the Park, care packages and (the winner) plastic bag mats to help the homeless. So many great ideas... maybe we can find a way to do them all!? 😄
