On Monday, November 5th, our Club held it's annual Remembrance Day Luncheon, honouring the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country. Introduced by Gerry Pocock, the keynote speaker was Susan Raby-Dunne, an acclaimed author from Alberta who has written several books on the Great War, most notably John McCrae - Beyond Flanders Fields. Raby-Dunne took the audience through the life of McCrae, creating a very real, personal portrait. Peter Hrastovec thanked Ms. Raby-Dunne, and proceeded to read the poem "In Flanders Fields".

The Commemorative Service was conducted with military personnel from The Windsor Regiment, The Essex and Kent Scottish, The Windsor Support Company (31 Service Battalion) and The HMCS Hunter. Piper Nathan Duczman from The Essex & Kent Scottish Pipes & Drums and bugler Corporal Jon Chaif from The Windsor Regiment Band added to the solemnity of the occasion.

Lex McCrindle gave a recap about his uncle (on his wife's side), Frank Dalton Brocklebank, who he had been researching ever since he learned about the 2 medals (a Victory Medal and a British War Medal) he had received. To read Lex's speech in full, click here
