This Tuesday we were very pleased to welcome Dr. Irene Moore Davis as our speaker.
Dr. Davis is a well-known and celebrated educator and activist in the region. She spoke about building awareness of black history in Windsor-Essex, and her presentation was indeed enlightening. Windsor-Essex has a very rich black history, which unfortunately includes many slaveholders whose names now are on many street signs in the region. However our history also includes black Empire Loyalists fleeing the US, and we were a large and important point on the Underground Railroad. There are several places in the area to learn more about our history, including the Amherstburg Freedom Museum, and Sandwich First Baptist Church on Peter St.
