Tonight’s program highlighted the current international service projects of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918).
Dr. Clinton Beckford presented the Tanzania project which focuses on the following initiatives: Food First, Canada-Tanzania Centre for Excellence, the providing of textbooks, Albino Outreach, girl’s empowerment, and cultural engagement. Janet Kelly provided insight into the over 25-year commitment to projects in Ghanna which emphasizes maternal and child health care, as well as a greenhouse project, the building of schools, and providing clean water. A Centennial project of the club provided clean water wells for 60 villages. Rick Caron highlighted education sponsorship in Tanzania which provides funds for promising young people, many whom have gone on to provide important services to their communities. Don Marsh and Dr. Ashok Rajan introduced a new project for the benefit of children in India who are suffering due to the Covid pandemic. With a grant of $5,000 from the Club Foundation, Don and Ashok are collecting additional funds to assist with child nutrition and mental health issues. Satellite members were encouraged to become involved in world community service.
As outgoing Chair of the Satellite Club, Rick thanked current executive members and welcomed the new executive committee who will begin their term in July.
