Monday, we welcomed Bryce Phillips and Stephanie Campeau from the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Bryce shared a project update that included the new protocols in place for COVID-19. The inspections for far have gone very well with respect to managing the project and the new COVID-19 protocols.

They’re proud that it is a sustainable project. Designed to meet Envision Silver level, but Bryce explained they would like to exceed that level.

It’s exciting that this project is considered a benchmark in the industry, including street reconstruction on Sandwich street. About 3km of Sandwich street will be improved and reconstructed to align with the overall community benefits plan.

  1. Workforce development – improve businesses, engage businesses and focus on supporting workforce, training and pre-apprenticeship opportunities.
  2. The neighbourhood infrastructure strategy. And develop a community investment strategy based on identified priorities.

There’s also a plan to include bridge artwork that the team is very excited about! This is about creating opportunities for trades and local artists.

There are still many opportunities to get involved with this project – check out their website for a comprehensive list.
