Save the Date: Earth Day 2021

April 22nd, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

In celebration of Earth Day, the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) is partnering with the Pelee Island Bird Observatory to discuss some of the best places to go birding and the best times of the year to plan your visit. If you are a birder or just thinking you might like to experience an incredible diversity of birds in some of the most beautiful natural areas Canada has to offer, you won’t want to miss the Birding Guide to Windsor and Essex County with Jennifer Nantais, Urban Bird Educator.

As most of you know, each year, Mark Donlon would invite members to prepare Easter baskets for children who utilize the services at Children's First. In speaking with President Gerry, we believe it would be a beautiful tribute to Mark for us to continue on his tradition - knowing the passion he had for Children's First and children in general.

Although it is close to Easter (we will plan in advance for next year), we would like to invite our members to celebrate Mark, Easter and children, by preparing Easter baskets for Children's First.

I spoke with Lori, the Executive Director with Children's First. She expressed that they have children in need and felt this would be a great opportunity to support the children and families in our community while honouring Mark.

Lori identified that annually Mark would donate 35-50 baskets on behalf of our Club.
The baskets can be geared towards children ages birth to 6 years. However, they have a larger number of clients aged 3 to 6, and they serve a higher number of males.

Many of us, including myself, still have a prepared basket from last year that we were not able to deliver due to COVID-19.

If you are interested in participating, I am proposing 3 options:

  1. You can drop off your Easter basket from last year at the Rotary office. We will need to have the baskets dropped off at the Rotary office by Friday, March 26th, by 4:00 pm.
  2. You can purchase a basket and items and drop the prepared basket off at the Rotary office. We will need to have the baskets dropped off at the Rotary office by Friday, March 26th, by 4:00 pm.
  3. If members are interested in supporting this initiative but are unable to go out to purchase the items and prepare the baskets, they can make a donation to the initiative, and I will prepare the baskets on the donors' behalf.  If this is of interest, please call the Rotary office to discuss further, as donations will need to be received by Wednesday, March 24th.
Children's First will provide porch drop-off to their client's homes beginning March 29th.
