The grant will allow each organization to complete small projects and purchase equipment or program supplies that address a need in our community.

Helping children through a Rotary Club in CroatiaIn 2018, an opportunity arose to support a project initiated by the Rotary Club of Zagreb-Maksimir in Croatia, who were raising funds to provide a desperately needed pediatric endoscopic column to assist children in need at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb. This device and its components are needed for various gastric examinations. The hospital had been using equipment that was designed for adults, making the experience for children very difficult.

An Evening for Education - Thank You St. Clair College!![]() Huge thank-you to the Event Planning students at St. Clair College and sponsors for putting on an incredible event, An Evening for Education, benefitting Rotary Club District 6400’s initiatives in Upper West (Jirapa), Ghana Sunday night. $5763 was raised, which far surpassed the original $2000 goal. Funds will be used to purchase learning kits for the education of children in Jirapa, Ghana. These kits will contain basic materials, school supplies, teaching resources, and more.

Biking for Polio Eradication: Ralph ZukeThe first Rotary event at the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) Centennial Plaza since it's unveiling was held yesterday afternoon, when Ralph Zuke, President of the Rotary Club of Fairview Heights, Illinois, rode in on his rickshaw, along with Past Rotary International Vice-President Jennifer Jones (member of Windsor Roseland) and Past District 6400 Governor Elizabeth Smith-Yeats (member of Rotary Club of Detroit). He's been riding since June 1st, with the goal of finishing on June 22nd, just in time for the Rotary International Convention in Toronto. Ralph is doing this ride to raise awareness and money for Polio Plus.

Plaza Grand OpeningThe Grand Opening of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) Centennial Plaza, a truly significant recognition of our Club’s Centennial, took place on the evening of Tuesday, May 29th, 2018. A beautiful night (with perfect weather!) set the stage for what proved to be an absolutely monumental event. To begin the ceremonies, Piper Greg Pearson played, followed by rhythmic sounds of Spirit of Four Directions, led by Theresa Sims. Carly Kelly sang the Canadian and US National Anthems. |
Centennial GalaFor over 2 years, members of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) Centennial Committee have been planning for the Centennial Gala in recognition of 100 years of service to our community and around the world. The Caesars unanticipated strike posed a massive last-minute complication, however in true Rotarian form, the committee rose to the challenge and succeeded to host a hugely successful, beautifully elegant and truly powerful celebration. The evening of Saturday, May 12th was an example of what Rotarian Fellowship is all about.

300 Trees Planted and Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) Hub DedicationOn Saturday, April 28th, 300 trees were planted by 56 volunteers along the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) Centennial Hub. A dedication ceremony then took place. Trails throughout Essex County are now accessible, thanks to this very special project.

Trip to Ghana a huge success![]() Last month, Ron Arkell and Dr. Godfrey Bacheyie and their team of 15 dedicated volunteers returned from an incredibly successful trip to Ghana. In true Rotarian form, people came together to ensure that enough funds were raised to complete ALL the projects that were identified.

Nick Bibic went over the Pigout for polio results, confirming the event is raising more money each year. 90-Year-Young RCN Veteran Rang the Kettle BellsDid you know that The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) has been a strong supporter of The Salvation Army initiatives over the past 30+ years, and that our members devote over 130 hours ringing the bells to help The Salvation Army reach their giving goals each year? Yesterday at The Devonshire Mall, 90-Year-Young WWII RCN Veteran Dorothy Grondin, rang the kettles for The Salvation Army. She wanted to give back to an organization that has helped her in the past and felt that getting into the Christmas spirit and ringing the bells would be the perfect opportunity. Dorothy volunteered alongside Andrea Grimes who was ringing the bells on behalf of The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918). A friend of Rotary, Andrea is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Sovereign’s Medal in recognition for her volunteer work in support of our Veterans and military families.

The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) celebrates Rick Caron as District Governor for Rotary District 6400![]() The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) is so proud that the District Governor for 2017/2018 is our member and Past President Rick Caron. Since 2001 when he joined our Club Rick has embraced the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”. One of his Rotary highlights was leading the 2009 Group Study Exchange team to Hungary. He has won our Club’s award for Rotarian of the Year (2012) and the Council of Governors (COG) Award in 2013. He is a Major Donor, a Benefactor and is a member of both the Paul Harris and Bequest Societies of the Rotary Foundation.
Over the last few years Rick’s Rotary work has focused on 4 international projects in partnership with his daughter Julie who is also a Rotarian with the Toronto Skyline Club. They work with the Tanzania Chapter of the Canadian World Education Foundation. Julie founded the Tanzania Chapter and Rick was a founding director and first president of the Canadian Work Education Foundation. In partnership with SASCO in Tanzania and Rotary they are involved in water projects, farming, education and small business development projects. In his spare time, he is Head, Department of Mathematics at the University of Windsor. Rick also enjoys getting away to the family cottage with his wife Wendy. |
